K -Kiwis

OK. The whole of my life, when someone said the word kiwi, I and most of my country (Spain) would think that you were talking about that delicious but hairy fruit. Right? In fact, as a child to see a kiwi (fruit) it was something rare, but then many years ago, it became a very common fruit to see on the shelfs of the grocery stores.

According to the free dictionary the kiwi fruit is the oval fruit of the kiwi plant, Actinidia chinesis, a climb plant native to Asia but grown extensively in New Zealand; it has a brown fuzzy skin and pale green flesh. Also called Chinese gooseberry.

I love eating kiwis, specially since I learnt the right way of eating them. We used to peel it off completely and then eat it as if it was an apple. A bit messy, you will think, and you will be right. But then, someone taught me  the right way to eat it, and then my love for the fruit increase a whole lot more. Just in case you don't know how to eat it, let me explain it to you: You take a knife and then divide the fruit in two as in the picture below, then, take a teaspoon and eat it as if you were eating a yogurt. Amazingly simple.

Then, suddenly, while studying at school, we learnt that Down Under, there is a very funny looking bird also called Kiwi.
I also found a definition, but this time from Thesaurus. A kiwi is a nocturnal bird of New Zealand having a long neck and stout legs; only surviving representative of the order Apterygiformes.
So there you are. I personally think that one is quite cute.

But then, the most fascinating thing happened when I moved to London, I met so many kiwis, and they were people! Yes, my friend, something that for the most of you was something known and natural, for me came as a shock, and I am not kidding.

Sometimes people started saying, yeah mate, she is a pretty kiwi, or yes, my friend is sharing a flat with a kiwi. What? Do you mean the fruit or the animal? I would think, but obviously I would keep my mouth shut just in case. And thanks goodness I did, because later I learnt that kiwis is a name given to those that are from New Zealand.

So there you are. Ignorance can be very funny at times, but normally it brings nothing good. My advise; learn as much as you can, so you don't have to ask and then look like a fool.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK.

Personalmente me parece monisimo.
